The prim and proper world of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility comes to life in this energetic and witty adaptation by Kate Hamill. When sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are left financially destitute by their father’s sudden passing, they must navigate the perilous social circles in their new, vulnerable status. As potential suitors come and go, so does the hope for true love. Full of gossip, humor, and heart-felt moments, this classic story examines the effects of societal pressures on love and life.

The play Sense and Sensibility premiered in 2014 at New York City’s Bedlam Theater Company, returning for another, longer run in 2016, and was named The New York Times Critic’s Pick for both years. The play is also the winner of the Best Unique Theatrical Experience from the Off-Broadway Alliance, and was nominated for the Drama League Award and eight Helen Hayes Awards. The New York Times calls Sense and Sensibility a “bouncy, jaunty take on Austen…[that] remains remarkably true to the values and priorities of its source.”
